Celebrity Golf Sightings

In this section of my blog, I am recording celebrity sightings I have had through my experience playing top 100 golf.

Gil Hanse

Playing in the Fishers Island Member-Guest I noticed a familiar name on one of the golf bags.

I went over to take a photo and Gil came by to say hi (and I’m sure see why a random dude is taking a photo of his golf bag).

In any case we spoke for a bit and he seemed very nice and cool (he was wearing a Grateful Dead belt).

Ben Crenshaw

My friend Sam sighted Mr. Crenshaw at the restaurant at Pacific Dunes (part of the Bandon Dunes property). After a few drinks at the bar we mustered up the courage to go and speak with this two time Masters Champion and preeminent course designer. He and his partner Coore were on the property looking to potentially build another course at Bandon.

After this first sighting we again bumped into this gentle legend outside the Bandon lodges and spent some more time with him.

Then on our last morning of the trip I walked into the lobby of the main hotel and there was Mr. Crenshaw sitting by himself reading the newspaper at 6am. I sat next to him, reintroduced myself, and spent about twenty minutes chatting golf.

What a gem of a guy and a wonderful golf-nerd experience.

Bill Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray

At the Prairie Dunes member guest, I had the great fortune of being placed in the Murray brothers flight for a 9 hole match. I tried my best to not quote Caddyshack lines during my round.  The brothers could not have been nicer and friendly to play with.  What a treat!  Here’s a photo:

Chi-Chi Rodriguez

My friend Matt and I got to play one hole with Chi-Chi (and later hang with him at the bar) at the Dorado course in Puero Rico.  The dude is super funny and cool.

Aaron Neville

I realize this is a bit of a stretch… but on my way to play East Lake in Atlanta THE Aaron  Neville was on my Delta flight.  Yes, the 80s pop star, Aaron Neville. I know you are super impressed.

As my friend said…” I don’t know much, but I know…that’s Aaron Neville!”
