I hadn’t heard of Poppy Hills but was happy to meet its acquaintance while on this recent trip to Pebble Beach. Located just up the road from the more famous courses on the peninsula, Poppy Hills is a wooded and mountainous course with a rich golf history. The course prides itself on being one of the top 100 public courses in the US.
Today’s round built on yesterday’s round at Pebble and was also part of the PGA Champions Tour event we were taking part in. I really enjoyed the course and found it to be pretty, challenging, and very well maintained for a public track.
We were paired with PGA professional Willie Wood who wowed us all with consistent play and incredible putting. It was a treat to play with him.
The course had a similar feel to me as Old Sandwich, which is another course I loved. Lots of waste bunkers and wispy fescue.
