Having previously been rained out of my opportunity to play this championship course, our host Mike graciously reached out to find another time to host me. And man… this was very nice of him.
Medinah’s Course Three is a true championship course having hosted three US Opens, two PGA Championships, the 2012 Ryder Cup, and this year the BWM Championship (as we played the spectator tents and grandstands were being set up).
The course reminded me very much of playing back home in the NYC area with strong similarities to Winged Foot and Baltusrol. In a bit of research on-line, I couldn’t find a direct connection between Medinah’s designer Bendelow, and Tillinghast, but I felt a lot of similarities here.
Medinah is most definitely a club, not just a golf course… there are three courses on the property and the clubhouse is massive.
Most impressive was the locker attendant Fito who goes above and beyond for each and every member and guest. He is attentive at a level I haven’t seen anywhere else (perhaps extending beyond the golf world). He has lockers stored with cigars, tequila, scotch, etc. all for the members and their guests. For father’s day Fito bought our host a golf shirt. Another guest got a baby present from Fito when he had his first child. Sort of absurd, amazing, and awe inspiring effort by Fito. Needless to say, he is making a good living at Medinah in tips.
Here are some additional photos of our great day:
